Event’s Growth Demand New Venue
With more exhibitors, a whole arena to set up in and extra events, Tuesday’s 14th annual Business Expo was bigger and better than ever.
The Kelowna Chamber of Commerce event is usually held at a hotel, but the need for more space to handle its size and attendance led to Skyreach Place arena this year. There was the kickoff luncheon with guest speaker Greg Campeau at Skyreach’s Manhattan Point restaurant, the trade show from 1pm - 8 pm and a Dessert Café & Wine Bar at Manhattan Point from 5:30 - 8 pm.
Bruce Falkins of Falkins Advertising Specialties was one of the more than 90 exhibitors that spanned accountant and seminar providers to frit packet and trailer makers.
The logoed merchandise business has moved away from the trinkets and rash of cheap pens and florescent key chains to quality gifts and incentives said Falkins. “A lot of the pens now cost $5-$10 each, especially if they are being given out to valued employees and clients.” However, the cheap stick pens still have a use. For mass handouts to get the business a name out there, Falkins says such pens can be left at bars and restaurants.
One of the most successful logo items currently is bottled water. Kelowna law firm Pushor Mitchell orders about 7,000 bottles a year to hand out at golf tournaments, triathlons and promotions.
Anything that has surface can be logoed, including fine crystals, golf balls, flashlights, jackets, fridge magnets, label pins, watches and clocks. In fact, when Kelowna MP Werner Schmidt was put in charge of getting Reform Party leader Preston Manning a retirement gift, he came to Falkins. A fine crystal mantle clock with engraved best wishes from the caucus was deemed the perfect present.
